Walking a Tight Line

In a USA Today op-ed democrats Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, and Steny Hoyer, majority leader, made very strong statements with regards to Americans who have forcefully interrupted townhall meetings across the country. The piece faulted the conservative protesters as engaging in “un-American” activities.

Wisely, the Obama administration refused to validate those stances.

Politico reported this response from the White House:

Asked about the USA Today op-ed by Pelosi and Hoyer, the White House demurred.

“I think there’s actually a pretty long tradition of people shouting at politicians in America,” said White House spokesman Bill Burton, during a gaggle aboard Air Force One on the way back from Mexico. “ … Now, if you just want to come to a town hall so that you can disrupt and so that you can scream over another person, [Obama] doesn’t think that that’s productive.”

“I think that there’s obviously been some orchestration of some of the folks who

The North Korean Irritation

Since entering office six months ago, President Barack Obama has juggled a cocktail of foreign relations nightmares -from two pending wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the U.S.’ ever-hostile relations with Iran.

But while the Obama administration’s primary diplomacy efforts have been in the Middle East, the largest threat to national  security is posed by none of those countries, rather, from one in the Far East.

Or at least the largest, and most obnoxious,  foreign relations nightmare.

Last week, after Secretary of State Hilary Clinton used numerous traveling appearances to preach isolation of North Korea in response to the country’s refusal to end it’s nuclear arms program, it fired back.

“We cannot but regard Mrs. Clinton as a funny lady as she likes to utter such rhetoric, unaware of the elementary etiquette in the international community,” said a North Korean spokesperson, according to the international media. “Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and …

Blacklisted: Glenn Beck

I’m done with Glenn Beck.

I used to admire his free-thinking political beliefs and his snarky sense of humor. I admired his willingness to publicly back a long-shot presidential candidate like Ron Paul, and even bought one or two of his books.

But that was then, and this is now.

Beck has proved to be a joke since moving to the FoxNews lineup. And if his poor excuse for a political commentary show wasn’t enough to lose my following, this was:

Politico reports:

FOX News host Glenn Beck dialed up his rhetoric against President Obama Tuesday, branding the president a “racist” in an appearance on the morning show “Fox and Friends.”

Beck charged that the president’s handling of the controversy over the arrest of Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. displayed a “deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”

“I’m not saying he doesn’t like white people, I’m saying he has a problem,” Beck said.

Unpopular Pelosi

According to the latest polls, only a quarter of Americans trust current Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from San Francisco. This comes as no surprise as the extremely liberal Pelosi has been the target of many right-wing attacks since becoming the first female speaker of the house, the 3rd in line for the presidency.

But what is mildly disturbing is here disregard for her own standing in the minds of Americans.

Politico reported:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is one of the most despised political figures in the country.

And, frankly, she doesn’t give a damn.

“No, I don’t care,” Pelosi told POLITICO last Thursday, laughing heartily as she walked beneath the Capitol dome and plunged into a crowd of tourists.

Mention of the “trust” question halted the click-clack of Pelosi’s heels against Rotunda marble, and she turned to face the reporter who posed the question.

“I don’t know about ‘trust’ —

McCain Investigated Obama Citizenship

Taegan Goddard, the author of Congressional Quarterly’s Political Wire blog writes today:

David Weigel talked with Trevor Potter and other lawyers for Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign who said that they did look into the Obama citizenship rumors and found them without merit.

Said Potter: “To the extent that we could, we looked into the substantive side of these allegations. We never saw any evidence that then-Senator Obama had been born outside of the United States. We saw rumors, but nothing that could be sourced to evidence. There were no statements and no documents that suggested he was born somewhere else. On the other side, there was proof that he was born in Hawaii. There was a certificate issued by the state’s Department of Health, and the responsible official in the state saying that he had personally seen the original certificate. There was a birth announcement in the Honolulu
