WASHINGTON DC – Leaders of Scoop44 announced today that the site will re-launch as ScoopDaily at www.scoopdaily.com and feature a richly retooled website, an expanded slate of distinctive and active writers, and bold, up-to-the-minute multifaceted coverage of not just President Obama and politics, but every aspect of young American life.  Additional new features will include news aggregation and first-rate original reporting on youth culture, entertainment and opinion trends, as well as poetry and literature sections.  The site will continue to build upon its attention-grabbing authoritative reporting on the Obama administration and expand its uniquely-focused coverage to Congress and local government.

ScoopDaily is now positioned as the preeminent source of first-rate news by and about America’s newly-politically engaged and energized generation – want to avoid saying “youth” here and will serve as a critical forum for analysis, reflection, and (another word here) growth.  As the nation prepares for the first federal election since President Obama’s inauguration, ScoopDaily allows readers to track, measure, and understand the fascinating and constantly evolving engagement among America’s 18 to 30 year olds unlike ever before.

As part of the launch, ScoopDaily is jointly releasing opinion research findings with Zogby International that reveal that 24.5% of those who agree with the statement “I believe that President Obama is abandoning many of the progressive principals he championed during his campaign for office” were 18 – 24.  In contrast, support from older Americans held much steadier: only 8.4% who felt the same way were over 70.  The parents of millennials expressed the greatest degree of dissatisfaction: a full 67.1% of those who agreed with the statement were 35 – 69.

ScoopDaily, in an exclusive partnership with Zogby International, will continue to release original opinion research that uncovers the latest in cultural, societal, and generational trends, especially as they relate to America’s young Americans.

“For the first time in history, our generation has the capacity to write our own history and chronicle our own politics,” said ScoopDaily founder and editor-in-chief Alexander Heffner.  “ScoopDaily is an undeniably entrepreneurial, innovative, and dynamic source of original reporting, commentary, and analysis.”

“Through a new team of writers that features some of the most distinctive, colorful, and topical commentary available from young Americans today, ScoopDaily is poised unlike ever before to lead our nation’s dialogue, to report our story, and to voice our opinions.  There is no other news outlet—in the mainstream media, or online, that features this quantity, depth, or richness of original material about our generation.”

Earlier this year, Scoop Media was awarded a two-year $242,800 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.  These resources generously fund ScoopDaily’s newly-expanded reporting in Washington DC and across the nation, technical features, expanded slate of writers, and genre-busting reporting.

“Before giving up hope on the future of American journalism, take a good look at ScoopDaily,” said New York Times opinion-editorial columnist Frank Rich.  “Here is a Web news operation built from scratch — and with awe-inspiring speed — by hard-working young journalists aspiring to the highest standards of the profession. They report and they illuminate. Their goal is to uphold the best traditions of journalism and to add to the dynamic American political debate. They pursue their mission in a robust entrepreneurial way that may yet have lessons to teach us all as we search for ways to bring the news business back to economic health in the digital age.”

ScoopDaily is a groundbreaking news outlet that features original reporting by, for, and about America’s youth regarding politics, culture, and opinion trends.  Originally founded as Scoop08 in 2007, ScoopDaily has grown into the nation’s preeminent source for first-rate news and insight on the pulse of young America.  Find out more at: www.scoopdaily.com.
