Tonight the second round of voting on the health care bill takes place- once again on a Saturday night at 8 p.m., EST.
I wonder why they keep voting on such crucial legislation on a weekend at night?

It’s not as if it’s because they won’t be bothered by the mob on the weekend. During the House vote there were so many guests and protesters outside of the Capitol that Democratic and Republican representatives gave their final speeches standing with children and babies of people waiting outside until they were scolded “the representatives will please refrain from using guests as props.”

I was a at a party during the House vote and a political savvy reporter friend checked her iPhone at midnight to announce the health care vote had passed. That brought to mind the last time midnight votes were common- during the Bush administration. When Rep. Dennis Hastert was Speaker of the House earmarks, midnight votes and other stealthy moves allowed crazy legislation to squeeze past the mid-week media scrutiny. I hope this Pelosi’s Congress isn’t using that playbook.
