Obama in Disney World

President Obama is going to Disney World…permanently.

Well, kind of. A robotic version of the president will be on display at Disney World’s Hall of Presidents starting this weekend.

Although one might expect the White House to downplay this spectacle, apparently it was all for it. Even
Doris Kearns Goodwin, the famed historian, chipped in as a consultant.

Not unlike the president himself, this robot is the most technologically advanced president Disney has created thus far, a product of the hard work of the company’s famed “imagineers.”

While this piece of news may not (or, rather, won’t) garner as much media attention as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s stepping down, to some, at least, this is of the utmost importance.

Goodwin, known for her research on past presidents, emphasized the significance of the robot portraying Obama, telling CNN,

These presidents are human beings with their own need to withstand adversity, sometimes to conquer fear … Yet the other side of it is that mystery of leadership. The best ones are able to give confidence and hope to the American people themselves.

Why would the White House downplay this? Every president gets honored in this way, it's not like no one was expecting it, and it's not like it's a bad thing. Frankly, I'm just mad it wasn't finished when I was there last month.
