Obama Tweets in Farsi

Continuing his efforts to reach out to the Muslim world, President Obama has had the statement he made Tuesday regarding the situation in Iran translated into Farsi on both the White House Twitter feed and on the White House blog.

When asked about why the decision to post a translation was made, the Washington Post reports that a White House official responded,

the translation was provided so the “Iranian people could read it in their own language.” The official noted that Obama criticized the Iranian government today for mistranslating some of his statements in recent days to make it seem as if he is fomenting the unrest.

Hopefully this will help Iranians understand America’s stance on their conflict, thus making it far more difficult for the Iranian regime to argue that the unrest inside their country is being fueled by the US.
