A group of current and former Mormons who are odds with the church’s position on gay marriage and its political activism to ban it has launched a Web site asking the faith to soften its stance.

The group, called the Committee for Reconciliation, is composed of a wide variety of individuals, including people who have never been associated with the Mormon church. The group plans to deliver the Petition to Church Headquarters on the first anniversary of Proposition 8 being passed in California.
