Obama: The Gun Industry's Best Friend?

President Obama has accomplished the amazing: his administration has seized gun owners by the throat with terror without lifting a finger for gun control advocates. Even non-gun owners are running for the gun shops.

Wait…oops.

The “Change for America” President has demonstrated timidity bordering inertia in spearheading gun control since taking office.

In the meantime, shop owners across America are selling or sold out of “literally everything” these days and distributors don’t have anything left on their shelves. Many new faces are surfacing their stores ranging from ages 21 to 70, according to an owner in Surprise, AZ.

A number of factors have led to this ironic scenario. For starters, many gun owners fear guns will disappear under the Obama administration.

Before taking office, then-Senator Obama voted to raise taxes on guns and ammunition by 500%. He served eight years on the board of the Joyce Foundation that supports “research and public policies to reduce the toll of firearm violence,” and contributed more than $2.5 million to gun control advocates.

If President, he implied he would limit gun sales and form a national gun registry for owners. His running mate, Joe Biden, also bragged an impressive anti-gun record.

Last February, Attorney General Eric Holder, confirmed that President Obama was hoping to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 under the Bush administration. In April, however, Obama said he would not fight gun advocates on this issue, at least not right now.

Today, gun owners are scrambling to purchase anything that’s still in stock, a frenzy that developed long before Obama was sworn in. Noel Incavo, owner of Midwest Guns & Pistols Range in Lyons, IL says his sales have been up for the past two years. Handgun and rifle sales are doing well and assault weapons are up, too, “Because everyone is afraid of the ban,” he stated. In other stores, primers have been sold out for months and orders are backlogged.

But even people who swore up and down they would never own a gun are newly converted. According to the Economist, the number of gun permits issued is up in Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Montana. The numbers are driven by an increased anxiety over personal and property protection — and concern over Obama administration policy. Incavo reports, “The home defense market has increased in sales, but not the hunting guns market.”

Even the type of gun owner is changing in recent days. More and more women are buying and shooting guns, and one shop owner in St. Louis, IL noted, “You’ll see pink firearms and all sorts of accessories these days.”

Shooters don’t trust the Obama administration, and have clutched their guns increasingly tigher ever since Obama became a serious presidential contender. Veteran and new gun owners fear public safety will lapse under his watch and increased crime will surface from a spiraling downward economy. Some believe domestic terrorism may come knocking on their doors.

Despite the rising wholesaler prices, Don Schiff, owner of Blue Mountain Sports in Putnam County N.Y. says, “People are very afraid where our economy is going. Obama is going to bankrupt us. People just want to protect their property.”

In short, these people will be ready when the government fails.

Last month Obama further aided the booming gun industry, signing credit card reform that included a measure protecting licensed gun owners’ rights to visit National Parks while carrying loaded weapons. While this infuriated some members of Congress, President Obama quickly signed the bill and effectively ignored the provision.
