It's a Draw!

You don’t have to live in D.C. for exciting election action.

The town in which I went to high school, Cave Creek, Arizona, just decided a town council election using – drum roll, please – a deck of cards.  It’s been an interesting week for Phoenix-area affairs.

The Daily Telegraph has the full story, which is probably the most entertaining piece of journalism I’ve ever read. I also enjoy the irony in the fact that I read about this in a newspaper published some 6000 miles away, while I’m sure my parents – who still live in Cave Creek – have no idea this has occurred. Some highlights:

Previous deadlocks have been decided by gunfights but the pair opted to draw cards instead.

Or this:

“Originally, we thought of settling this with a paintball fight…” said Vincent Francia, Cave Creek’s mayor.

This is only a small portion of the greatness that appears in the article, some of which may or may not be tongue-in-cheek. Either way, I read the entire article out loud to my roommate, laughing all the way through. If you can’t enjoy an election decided in this form, politics have stolen your soul. Get it back and read this.
