What Priorities?

Apparently repealing DOMA is no longer a priority in Washington, or so said Nancy Pelosi to the Bay Area Reporter. Instead the priorities are passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and the federal hate crimes bill, which was introduced into congress earlier this month. Those are both important, but so is DOMA…

There is some speculation that the Dems are trying to take out DOMA quietly in order to avoid a backlash. I hope that is the case. There is a lot of hope for good things, especially as the LGBT Equality Caucus, which is formed less than a year ago, revs up to pass legislation that the president will actually sign. (Bush2 threatened to veto both the ENDA and the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill.)

Me, too. In fact, I hope they attach it to a military appropriations bill. I'd love to see the Republicans flinch with that one.
