Buzz Words

The talking heads on my television were analyzing every modicum of the G-20 summit Thursday. The ones on MSNBC’s 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue called the summit a success since President Obama didn’t say anything to make the economy worsen.

If you’re the president, any word you say can make anything worse – simultaneously keeping broadcasters employed so they can pay off their second houses.

Some examples: words like ‘depression’ or ‘recession,’ even though we’ve passed that shock threshold. How about words like ‘escalation’ or ‘nationalization’, ‘mobilization’ or ‘militarization.’

Come to think of it, people always say long complex things to the press hoping we’re too lazy to translate the ambiguity.

What other things do you think politicians try not to say?
